Anton has never really been the sort of man you'd assume would be picked for field work. He led a perfectly normal life, had a perfectly normal upbringing, before Geser decided to make an example of him and pull his true nature from it's shell. He has adjusted relatively well to being an Other, however, and despite the fact that he could have turned his back on his duty to the Light or lived a normal life, he joined the Nightwatch. Most of his time in the Nightwatch has been spent in the programming division, analyzing and organizing data and such things for the Nightwatch but recently, he was plucked from his comfortable little hiding place in the office and put on field duty... which, frankly, he feels he's not suited for. That being said, he has a sharper mind than most people seem to take him to have and this can be quite the advantage on occasion.

Anton is not human, not really. He is an Other, those with powers beyond the normal and the mortal. He ages far more slowly than humans do and he has the power to do magic. As he is a Light One, a Light Other, his power is based and powered by positive emotions in human beings and it is in his interest to see people do the right things. Unfortunately, he is a member of the Nightwatch and thus he knows that any time he uses his powers to help people, a Dark Other will be allowed to hurt them in order to maintain the balance.

He is not much of a combat magician, though he seems to have hidden depths. Of late, he has started to have visions (waking and dreaming) and he's progressed a great deal farther as a magician than he'd thought he ever would. As a Light Other, he will not lie outright, but he can refuse to answer. He's also careful with his swearing as cursing someone's name gets into really interesting places when it comes to an Other. He can also enter the Gloom (Twilight, as the current English translation calls it in the book, but I prefer the movie term as it's more accurate) which is an otherworld of magic. It feeds power but it also feeds ON power and it's dangerous to go into the deeper levels. While in the Gloom, he is not visible to normal humans.

Anton is a skeptic and a cynic in most things, but especially about his job. As much as he would never give up the battle that the Nightwatch wages every night, he is angry that things are as they are even if he can't seem to figure out a way around them. There are parts of him that wish that the Light and the Dark would give up the battle; he's lived across the hall from a family of vampires for years and he's never had cause to be afraid or angry with them or disgusted the entire time he's been there. The youngest son, as a matter of fact, is a friend (or was until the incident with the young she-vampire). While he acknowledges the necessity of it, the fact that the leader of the Nightwatch tends to use his people to their fullest (and sometimes beyond it) in pursuit of his goals irritates the hell out of Anton, even though he respects Geser and what he's trying to do. He is not, himself, all that powerful or important, but he seems to be a sort of catalyst for those who are, such as Svetlana and Olga and such.

In other areas, he loves music and will almost never be caught without his mini-disc player. He loves making his own random mixes of music and he tends to lose himself in the music as a self-defense. He's not QUITE an alcoholic, but he does like his vodka and his cognac and he will drown himself in booze when upset.

At his base, though, he is a kind and compassionate man but one who will do what is necessary for Good. Not always the greater Good or even the most fair Good, but Good. While he must tell the truth at all times due to the fact that he's a Light Other, he endeavours most times, when it's important, to tell the truest truth, so to speak.

This version of Anton is from the book series as opposed to the movie, though if a detail is provided concerning the movie-verse that isn't specified in the book, I will happily use it. Also, I'm using the movie PB because I like him and because the movie is awesome.

Please do not slaughter the mun if she fuddles up a bit on the Russian, aspects of Moscow or Russian life (as she will be researching it as best she can), or on details from books yet to be translated and released in English. Please do slaughter the mun if she screws up anywhere else.
